Online Social Security Number Verification

Employers can now check employee social security numbers online through the Social Security Administration’s (SSA) website.  This service allows employers to enter 10 names and social security numbers and know within seconds if they do not match. It is the employee's responsibility to resolve the discrepancy, although the employer is cautioned that discharging an employee for such a discrepancy may be illegal.  To utilize this service, employers must first register with SSA’s Business Services Online:
