OSHA has released a comprehensive heat injury and illness prevention regulatory proposal. The rule would generally apply to all employers and be triggered when employees are exposed to temperatures of 80ºF for more than fifteen minutes in any given sixty-minute period.
What does this rule mean for you? The heat rule's many specifications will impact covered employers both operationally and administratively. Among other things, the rule would require substantial heat injury-related precautions including, mandatory paid breaks, employee training on heat safety, and for employers to develop a written Heat Injury and Illness Prevention Plan.
There has also been legislation introduced in New Jersey regarding Heat Injuries and Illness (Assembly 5022_I1.PDF) which we will also discuss and seek your commentary.
EANJ invites members of industry and public sector entities impacted by OSHA’s Heat Injury and Illness Prevention rule to a discussion about the implications of the rule on your business and employees. EANJ will gather and submit comments on behalf of employers to OSHA during the public comment period, which closes on December 30, 2024.
There is no cost to attend these events, but registration is required.
