Effective May 7, 2013, employers are required to use the USCIS newly issued version of the Form I-9. The new document has an expiration date of 3/31/2016. Some changes to the Form include new fields, reformatting to reduce errors, and revised instructions to both employees and employers. Additionally, the USCIS has also issued a new Handbook for Employers (M-274) which provides guidance on how to complete the Form I-9.
In light of increased government focus on immigration and enforcement, there is a greater chance of being audited by ICE. In order to assure compliance with the ever-changing obligations, it is crucial that employer’s perform a self audit of their Form I-9’s to ensure avoid costly penalties.
This program will cover a detailed overview of I-9 audits and penalty process; how to properly fill out the I-9; IRCA; ICE Investigations and current worksite enforcement policy; ICE IMAGE program and other practical tips for employers to avoid costly mistakes.
